halloween landscape process (thumbnails)

oil paints are by no means my specialty, but they’ve been fun to work with so far! my first landscape painting class is wrapping up, and we’ve been asked to get layouts and studies ready for a final large painting.

These thumbnails are based off pictures i’ve taken at Red Rocks, at a river in Golden, CO, and at a set of unoccupied houses in Lakewood, CO.

The objective is to take one of these compositions and blow it up into a full-sized painting, while also inserting a character into it to tell some kind of story.

Unfortunately I completely forgot the “character” part of the thumbnails! So, as a result, this is just a bunch of landscapes, rather than a set of illustrations with any proper storytelling going on. We’ll see how the class and professor react to these thumbnails, and depending on what they say, I should be able to get a good idea as to which thumbnail to go with and what kind of character to insert, and what they should be doing (with any luck).
