about

My name’s Brayton Criswell, and I draw in a cartoony style that I use to portray a variety of situations and stories. I work on comics, and do character designs and general illustration on commission for individual clients.

As a kid, I spent all my free time at home and at recess drawing Calvin & Hobbes and doodling robots and dragons. This fueled my love for character design and comics-making. In college, I had a brief stint with game design, but soon realized my true passion was in drawing characters and putting them in panels. Nowadays, I still binge-read comics and dream up stories for the characters I’ve created, and put them to paper. I work most naturally with an old-school pencil and some sketchbook paper, but I’ve picked up some skill in colorful digital illustration to accompany my greyscale work.

I’ve been doodling since the age of 3, drawing seriously from the age of 13, have earned two Associate’s degrees in Studio Art and Liberal Arts from Cabrillo College in California, and have gained a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Illustration from Rocky Mountain College or Art and Design in Colorado.
